Floating Village Tour
By far our most distant excursion--a long, three hour round trip tuk tuk ride (and thus, not recommended for families with young kids)--this out-of-the-way Floating Village Tour focuses on what Bees Unlimited does best: food, culture, and the daily life of the Cambodian people--albeit in an aquatic environment--where, in the rainy season, children paddle to school, and fishing boats come and go throughout the day; and where, in the dry season, village folk mend their nets, repair and build traps, patch up their boats, clean and smoke fish, busy themselves with other activities related primarily to fishing and shrimping, and basically get on with life the way they know, live, and love it.
Interesting things to indulge in along the way include bee brood and honey, sticky rice in bamboo tubes, edible insects and arachnids sold roadside; also, rice-pounding and mushroom-growing; brick-making, hammock-braiding, incense-making, crocodiles, fish-smoking, a school visit, and more... before either taking a noisy boat ride (late in the rainy season) to the Tonle Sap Great Lake--SE Asia's largest body of freshwater--with little to no interaction at the community level; or, walking through parts of the village, interacting with local residents, and possibly even checking out the houses they live in, and tasting some of the street food on offer (throughout the dry season).
A unique and scam-free experience.
Price: $70/adult. $35/ea for children ages 5-11; up to age 4, no charge.
