A combination of market, village, countryside, and food, our popular Combo Tour is the ideal option for anyone craving a taste of present-day rural Cambodia, away from all the tourists and temples.
We take in a typical day as it unfolds, but can make no promises related to what you'll see, eat, do, or document along the way--as each and every day is different, there are no guarantees, and so much depends both on our timing, and on the season.
Our focus throughout this tour is on local FOOD and CULTURE.
Our first stop--an open market--may be an eye sore for some or a true taste of Cambodia for others, but it's arguably the best place to document the local diet. We like to do breakfast there, and have a look around before leaving town for the countryside.
In the countryside we visit a primary school with students at study or play. We also visit a monastery, for a unique opportunity to interact with Buddhist monks. Later, we take in basket-weaving and mat-weaving, palm sugar production, blacksmithing, noodle-making, stone/wood-carving; incense-rolling, rice-planting and harvesting; and, other aspects of rural life, including both weddings and funerals, when the opportunities arise. You can even treat your back to a traditional Cambodian massage (cupping), and sample food throughout the day. And if that's not enough, there may even be a few surprises along the way.
No insisting, no arm-twisting, and definitely no forced-feeding!
What we propose are options--and that includes sharing a little here and there with those we interact with along the way. $10 in local currency should more than carry the day!
We stop just before breakfast, at Huy Keang Currency Exchange (with several branches in town), where you can exchange foreign currency for USD and Riel, commission-free.
Keep in mind that US $1, $2, and $5 bills are no longer readily accepted, and $10 and $20 bills are also being phased out; so you'll need to change some USD to Riel during your Siem Reap visit, for things such as tuk tuks, T-shirts, elephant pants, massages, laundry, phone cards, food, beverages, souvenirs, etc.).

We travel by "air-conditioned" tuk tuk, with hammocks for the kids, and see Cambodia the way it's meant to be seen: slowly and deliberately, not rush-rush. We take in the sights, the sounds, the smells, the food... and, throughout the tour, we also stop to take videos and pictures of whatever we want, whenever we want.
